"Welcome to New Orleans" is a 58 minute documentary about the city of New Orleans during the first year after Katrina. This film depicts the violence and racism in the impoverished American South. This is a story about the bottom-side of United States--a society that has been left to fend for itself. But more importantly, this film is about hope, in the face of overwhelming adversity.
"Welcome to New Orleans" depicts the ravaged city through the eyes of Malik Rahim, a 58-year-old former member of the Black Panthers, who stayed during and after Hurricane Katrina, in order to help residents. He has become a local hero, as he has built up his grassroots organization, Common Ground Collective, over the past two years. Common Ground has served over 170,000 residents with the help of over 12,000 volunteers, who have traveled from all 50 states and 40 different countries.
But there is still plenty of work to be done. To find out more information, or to make a donation, please visit our site, www.commongroundrelief.org. Thank you.

  • i agree that jobs Will help a lot of people , but the assholes committing all this violent crime dont want jobs , they want easy money or to take it for free from someone who does work for it.violent criminal mentality cannot be fixed any way other than prison or capitol punishment.

  • 3:39

He made a call for help against white vigilates that were protecting them selves from black looters that were going from house to house robing and looting everyone at gun point including their own.

and he didnt expect white people to answer the call?

Hell they were protecting themselves thats what the hell you need to do.

black, white, yellow, red, it dont matter you need to help each other for god sakes not loot and rob one another.

  • most likely was a crooked cop

  • @StrkrAce42 Ever heard of preparing and stocking up on supplies you ignorant asshole? That's what real survivalist do, they stock up on food and water. They do not going looting.

  • "po-lice". LOL "he daid" lol. Still can't put together a correct sentence.

  • they had I think over a week to leave this area

  • @plzIneedhelp Weather did do this, and hardly nobody left time, but some people had time to riot.

  • Fuck New Orleans.

  • If me and my family are out of water and food after a disaster, you can bet your bottom dollar I'm going looting. But, I wont be coming out of the store with a microwave! And when I see a rescue helecoptor, I wont shoot at it either. If it meant survival I would even enter an abandoned home, for food or water. But, when I got shot, I would know exactly why. :) have a nice day!

  • @pettyofficerramsey He said the whites who answered the call restored his belief in people being people, compationate and helpful, no matter their race. Pay attention. If someone shot any one during the hurricane aftermath just to be shooting them, they should go to jail. But, a man of any race has the right to defend his and his neighbors home. Looting stores should be allowed during desasters, but no microwaves, please! And no shooting at resuces helecoptors.

  • My friend Antonio from high school is the one who shot that police officer. I remember this. He shot himself after he did it....I never would have expected it because we both had the same opportunities at a good private school.

  • They were shooting people who lived right in the neighborhood. They didn't give a crap about weather they were looters or not, They just shot anyone black.

Those vigilantes ought to be executed.
