It's good to see that Bob Ross' legacy is still carrying on strong even a decade after his death. I grew up watching Joy of Painting, so this is nostalgia of the highest order for me.

Somebody should beat the devil out of this guy.

@oceansdoor normally i use the liquid clear but i either was out of it or concerned about the extra glare from the lighting. easel sounds good, just like BR made one just like that out of an old step ladder. thanks for your comment and question!

@twinket76 I've been painting in the BR technique now for 4 years. I really love it! It's my solace. Did you put a thin even coat of the liquid clear on this black gesso canvas before you started this painting? I find that liquid clear makes it soooo much easier to apply the transparent paints. Good job! I made my easle out of a 5' wooden step ladder and it works pretty good. Thanks for the video!

can you do the wet on wet style painting with Acrylic paints if you use a retarder?
Why are you doing a " wet on wet ' on a dry canvas ??

@jeanmunn The canvas isn't dry there are transparent colors over it. Those colors, if memory serves me correctly it's Indian Yellow/Dark Sienna on the top, Pthalo Blue on the bottom) See, Bob Ross was smart and designed these paints to work unlike regular oil paints that are made at the same consistency. The opaque colors like Red and White and Black are VERY firm and dry but the transparent/semi-transparent colors are made to a much thinner consistency that enables you to work with them

@jeanmunn to work with them as an undercoating. I've seen Bob do this, not use the Liquid Clear...probably before he came out with the product he would just use the transparent paints. My reason for doing it this way was mainly to cut down the glare. I may also have been out of liquid clear. Thanks for your comment! :)

@jeanmunn ok I was able to find an example of what I mean by coating your canvas with transparent color. Series 28 of the Joy of Painting, Painting 13 "Home Before Nightfall" It starts with showing Bob finishing up scrubbing the canvas with Pthalo Blue, never using the liquid clear in this step of the painting.
