Music education is a profession true, its when you teach young students to play a musical instrument. In college its teaching about music history, theory, aural skills in depth from what you learning in high school. Music therapy, hmm.. used to help you study, 95% of the students who play music have a higher GPA then the other 5% who don't. Music can also be used to heal pain and also open your mind.

I think the benefits of a proper music education is much more long lasting and efficient than music therapy, even for individuals with exceptionalities. In short, Music therapy gives you a fish every time you go to a session, but music education teaches you to fish.

As a music educator i have little respect for music therapy....to me having a field of study dedicated to music therapy is like having a field of study dedicated to how water is thirst quenching......it almost goes without saying that one brings about the next.
