Kelsey Smith-Briggs (Kelsey's paternal family and their supporters call her Kelsey Briggs, which was never her name) and her mom, Raye Dawn Smith, shared a special bond. Others have lied and are using Kelsey as a pawn to gain fame and fortune. Kelsey's story should not be used to make others wealthy or to attract attention to themselves. The media clips are of the paternal family's version of what happened, which has been proven to be full of lies and twisted facts to make themselves out to be heroes when Lance didn't show up for the hearings (he was in town, not in "Iraq") and Kathie gave up visitation of Kelsey because she didn't like what was being said about her when Kelsey reacted negatively toward her in supervised visits.

Kelsey's father, Lance Briggs, contacted the publisher of Judge Craig Key's book (A Deadly Game of Tug of War: The Kelsey Smith-Briggs Story) and he told the publisher that he is entitled to all the proceeds from the book. The proceeds are going to a charity for single parents. Though the Briggs and their supporters have claimed the book is putting money in the Judge's pocket, it's not. The book was written to tell the true version about Kelsey and to help other single parents like Raye Dawn.

The Briggs have exploited Kelsey's memory for money and continue to lie about what happened in her case and certain youtube users are perpetuating the lies and calling them truth. It's disturbing how they claim to be doing it for Kelsey when they don't care about Kelsey at all because of their lack of interest in what really happened. They're just in this for the fight and the drama they create. How sad! If you see any of those videos, please join us in complaining to youtube to have them removed. They are defaming Kelsey and her family and are pirating and vandalizing her pictures that belong to her mom.

Update - Raye's sentence of 27 years was confirmed by the court judge. He's an older man who is about to retire and never goes against a jury verdict. Raye is now in the process of her appeal.

At Raye's trial it was proven that Kelsey was with Kathie and/or Lance Briggs when her legs were broken. The attorney general agreed in Raye's appeal that neither Raye Dawn or Mike Porter had anything to do with Kelsey's broken legs.

On 3-5-2006 Kathie said: "Our DA has already stated on camera his case against Mike Porter is strong."

After Mike's plea a paper quoted: "If it wasn't for the Briggs family's desire to accept the agreement, Smothermon said he would have taken this case to trial."

Kathie stated 3-5-2006: "We heard another rumor today that a deal could be made for the mother. This is not justice for Kelsey if that happens."
