Niten Ichiryu Musashi kai kendo demonstration at the 2008 Nihon Matsuri Salt Lake City Utah

According to their website: http://musashikai.jp/english-page/content01/page01.html "Nito Ryu" is the technique of using 2 swords. "Niten Ishi ryu" is the school that Musashi founded. So I suggest everyone take it up with them if you feel so knowledgeable and they are in the wrong.

  • kendo MEANS to be noisy :P

  • @Delmo67 how do you know that musashi would not be able to hold his katana in the left at the tsuka? If you using shinai griping Tsuka with you left had is very normal its differenct case if you are using Katana but who say you can;t cut griping tsuka of katana if it musashi who is willing the Katana its very possible

  • We used to do this from time to time in our dojo, mostly just because its fun/interesting but its pretty damn effective if you practice enough.

  • I like it a lot, I would like to attend kendo classes in SLC, could you direct me to the appropriate location please. Also, what's the name of the song, where can I get music like that!

  • Musashi wasn't the first samurai in history to use two swords but he was the first one two use two swords as one.

  • Thanks for uploading this. Not only is it really cool to watch, but the people arguing in the comments section actually seem to know (more or less) what they're talking about. I had heard of a simultaneous dual-sword fighting technique, but never knew it actually existed beyond movies and video games until I picked up the book of five rings. Very awesome.

  • also (this may not be true so don't hold me to it) but apparently a thrust to the stomach was a legal point scoring move... so kazuki is feasible, and so would haritsuke be too.

  • I wonder what would happen if you used Niten Ichi Ryu in Kendo... like would it be frowned upon for not using what they considering "Proper Technique"? I mean you never get a short sword alone in Kendo but I assume anything from Itto Seiho or Nito Seiho is do able (if your allowed to use 2) sure the style makes it hard to do things like uke nagashi (Migi or Hidari) but tora buri and aisen uchidome can be somewhat feasible...

  • the only reason somone uses a name that has nothing to do with his sword style...

    money...

    very shamful
