I have some very unusual shapes and would love to know how they are made. I have some "branch" pearls and some others that I don't even know how to name.

Amazing!! I love to make jewelry with freshwater pearls and the knowledge of how they are made and how they get their colors makes me appreciate them even more.

I love freshwater pearls more than Akoyas - their "internal glow" are mesmerising and so so beautiful!!!
Do the freshwater mollusks survive harvesting year after year? Akoyas don't, I was told.
It is actually one of the really interesting things about Freshwater. Once the first generation pearls are harvested the mollusks are actually placed back into the water and continue to grow a second generation of pearls including, coin, keshi and liquid pearls!
