https://www.facebook.com/TheRPGFanatic Review for J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, Vol. I by Interplay (1990).

How I review games:
I do not use a rating system. I think rating systems are silly.
Unlike many game reviewers I try to review a game from the perspective of who I believe the target audience of the game is supposed to be.

If I personally don't belong to the target audience for the game I'm reviewing, I try to consider if the intended target audience would enjoy the game or not.

  • wow i hope you LOVED the Bakshi film because unlike the game, they didnt release it with a ''Part One'' in the title, and everyone hated it, they did release this with a Volume I because of one thing: THE STORY IS FREAKING HUGE, it's IMPOSSIBLE to make a LOTR game/film in 1 shot, unless you really shorten the story.

  • @aquelescaraaaaaaaaaa It's not impossible to make the whole story into one game. The bulk of this game has little to do with the novel anyway.

  • *continuing* . If you had done your research on the computer RPG genre and the history of development of this game, you would have seen that during its context, it was a pretty good game in which Brian Fargo took part. The part with the industrial revolution... Have you read the book ? It is a clue to what happens to the Shire in book VI, which was not put in the movie. Do your homework and research next time, and maybe you'll avoid making a shit video.

  • @mickmils Had you done your research you'd know this is a game I first played when I was a kid, long before the newer movies were made. Like I said in the review. My criticisms stand.

  • @mickmils Frodo is a Hobbit, a race that ages differently than humans. And he's had the One Ring granting him a kind of longevity. Read the book closer next time :)

  • The forced "anger" and useless cursing in your criticism is incredibly juvenile. You're trying way too hard, and it shows. Also, you're wrong about Frodo. He was fifty years old when he left the Shire; the same age as Bilbo was when he left for the Misty Mountains. So it was Ralph Bakshi that had it wrong. In this instance, the game had it right. Either way, stop trying to funny. Your coverage of game content was good... but the simple-minded fake attitude is ridiculously terrible.

  • @x5deadlyvenoms Had you read the books you would know Frodo looks young because of The One Ring (page 42 of Fellowship, Galadriel points it out) and because Hobbits age differently than humans do. Also there isn't anything fake in my attitude.

  • @TheRpgFanatic Agreed. Hobbits age differently to humans, and a hobbit in his 50s would actually look like like someone in his 20s or thirties. So Bakshi had it right. Peter Jackson was close enough as well.

  • @burrorojo19 that's a relief, because Frodo is like 40 years old and he looks like a 8 year old..

  • So much to say... I am sad you did not understand the game. The reason the character do not look like the movie (and I HOPE you mean the Bakshi movie, else your criticism is even more stupid) is that it is a floppy game at heart, developped before they acquired the rights for the cartoon. The gameplay you criticize, with exploration and figuring stuff on your own without game guides was how we played games back then, and we loved it...

  • Your not nintendo nerd, stop trying to be like him.

  • Saying Interplay artists should've made the hobbits look like the Bakshi versions is unfair considering the Enhanced CD-ROM re-release was 2 years AFTER the original diskette release in 1990, which based their appearance solely on the descriptions of characters in the books. Interplay didn't painstakingly revamp each portrait to fit the cartoon, and the game's better for it.
