Video of three morning glory clouds we encountered Sept 2011. The cloud is an extraordinary phenomenon that is uncertain in origin, making it very difficult to predict. By the time it reaches Burketown, it may have already travelled 1,000km! It dissipates when the land temperature gets too warm to sustain the cloud. It can be over 1,000km long and up to 10,000 feet high. They can also be invisible! These ones are up to 3,000ft high, and were soared by motor gliders (engines off) for 200km, to Lawn Hill. They are exquisitely beautiful as well as being extremely rare, and we consider ourselves among a lucky few to have experienced this incredible weather event. Go to Burketown, the locals are very friendly and the fishing is good as well. Late Sept to November is the best time for these clouds.
that is wonderfully astonishing - what an experience! xxxx
