This debate is probably about as old as Killing Floor itself. There's no doubt that the crossbow and M14 are devastating in the right hands, but which (if either) is the superior weapon?
@crazedtofu No worries man. : ) Tone is hard to pick up on over text so I figure it's best to just give everyone the benefit of the doubt. No offense was taken and new things were learned. Far as I'm concerned, the exchange has been a win.
@subvocal Yeah the M14+LAR combo will take down a Scrake very quickly. And if you're fast and accurate enough, you can kill a Fleshpound before he even finishes the rage animation.
With Scrakes and the failed stun animation, you have to aim near his sternum and I think a little bit to the left. Basically shoot at where his head is supposed to be.
BTW sorry If I came off a little too harsh in my first response to you.
The big advantage I'm seeing is the ability to drop scrakes a little faster than with the Xbow.
Speaking of Scrakes: I've never been sure where the scrake's head hitbox is when he goes into his failed stun animation (where he stands upright and looks side to side.) You guys ever figure that out?
Fleshpounds look iffy but these videos give me hope for the M14. Still not convinced, but motivated to give it another chance and some practice. Thanks.
@subvocal Well, so far I've only got one gameplay video where I was using M14/LAR:
watch?v=1CNh0xp1uAU
I'm not nearly as good with it as devante (the other guy I link you to). I also just uploaded another video of me messing around with the M14 on testmap.
@crazedtofu Yes, that was a crappy pub game where I was testing out recording software. That aside, I've got over 600 hours into this game and have yet to see anyone use the M14 who wasn't a complete waste of a slot.
I'd love to see someone good with the M14 though. You got any uploads of you using it in an actual game?
@crazedtofu I've yet to see a sharpshooter pull this off.
The M14 has the worst iron sights in the game and the laser is unreliable. It kicks hard enough to overpower the sharpshooter's recoil comp and fires even slower than the lever action. (And at least the lever stuns Scrakes.)
The M14 CAN handle crowds of smaller enemies, but between the 9 and the handcannon, a sharp already has that covered. The potential for greatness is there, but so far the M14 has been a sure sign of fail.
@benjaminoptimus You've obviously never seen a skilled sharpshooter using it. I will shred anything in it's path (including Scrakes and Fleshpounds) if you have the skill to use it correctly.
@noptic M14 works fine against Scrakes too. It only takes 7 headshots to kill them. LAR is just the safer way to do it. Though you can get Scrakes stuck in a flinch lock with the M14 so they can't attack you. I managed to do it with the handcannon in the video.
Eh. Not really supposed to use the m14 on Scrakes unless you absolutely have to I thought. The LAR is for Scrakes right?
Also, I made the switch from Xbow to M14 when I realized the M14 and LAR can do everything that Xbow can, but they can save you in a pinch way better than an Xbow can when numbers are involved. Those 20 shots from the M14 and the 10 or 12 from the LAR before reloading I think, can take out so much.
M14 is a bad weapon IMO b/c when u play in teams, everyone start shooting the bigger monsters and u cant get 5 continuous good headshots

I prefer the Crossbow + Handgun, I think that Crossbow is better for afar and I suck with M14.

You can use crossbow against fp little faster aswell using hc and where to shoot when his rage could make it faster.
