Supporters of reproductive rights are mourning the killing of the abortion provider Dr. George Tiller. The sixty-seven-year-old Tiller was shot Sunday as he attended services at his Wichita, Kansas church. The gunman fled the scene, but a suspect was later caught in a Kansas City suburb. The suspect, fifty-one-year-old Scott Roeder, has a history of involvement in anti-abortion activism and was once arrested and jailed on explosives charges. He has ties to the right-wing separatist group known as the Freemen. We look at the life of Dr. Tiller with five women who worked alongside him to uphold reproductive rights: two women doctors who fly into Wichita every month to work alongside him performing abortions; two of the attorneys who defended him through years of legal harassment, one in Wichita and one in New York; and Ellie Smeal of the Feminist Majority Foundation, who knew him for twenty years. @tolivr - Wrong... that is why there are exceptions for any action of the pregnant woman (whether intentional or accidental), exceptions for an abortion that the pregnant woman has consented to & exceptions for Medical Doctors (even if the intent is not to perform an abortion.) It is ALL about what the pregnant woman wants... it is dishonest to pretend otherwise. @tolivr Yes, only the pregnant woman can determine whether she will continue her pregnancy, if she choses not to; there is no homicide... in what other circumstance does a victims decision whether to continue a pregnancy determine whether homicide charges are filed against a perpetrator? None. And a li'l fyi - the #1 cause of death of pregnant women (outside of medical complications) is homicide. So yes, those laws are important if they exist to punish the perpetrators.

It's good this baby killer is dead. He wasn't murdered himself because he wasn't a person. Therefore, it is unlawful for Scott Roeder to be tried for murder. If anything, he should be tried for killing without a license and tag.
