SON-OF-GUN; JUST MADE IT!!! In 1956 "Walk Hand In Hand" peaked at No. 10 thus just making the Billboard's Top 10 and it spent a total of 20 weeks in the Top 100...
Also in 1956 two other versions of this song charted; Andy Williams took it to No. 54 while Denny Vaughn's topped out at No. 70...
Other artists who covered this songs are Ronnie Carroll, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Engelbert Humperdinck, & the Twin Cities Gay's Men Chorus...
This hit by Tony Martin hit #10 on the Top 40 charts and #2 in the United Kingdom. It would finish at #74 for the year, 1956. On July 9, 1955, Bill Haley and His Comets hit #1 with Rock Around the Clock, signifying the start of the Rock Era. On April 21, 1956, a black haired boy from Tupelo, Mississippi hit #1 with Heartbreak Hotel, sending this new sound into the stratosphere. His name? Elvis Presley.
Tony Martin sang (and recorded) the prologue from the opera Pagliacci, "Si Puo", ringing the high A flat at full volume with that big voice! ...a thrilling performance! I think he used to do it in his night club acts. Does anyone have that performance in their collection? And, if so, post it here on YouTube? We all would be grateful and amazed.
What a legendary singer Tony Martin is! Not only does he possess one of the greatest voices of oour lifetime but he is a gentleman with a moral reputation. One of the songs he sings on an album is titled "Here" which is just wonderful. I wonder why it never was recorded for a potential hit. I wish there was a singer like Tony today!
I remember this song the first time around - brings back lots of very happy memories
