I was looking forward to seing a more light-hearted take on the communist days and this movie met that expectation. Yes, the times were bad, but we were young, we didn't know any better and at the time it didn't seem all that bad. Like the girl whose parents had to sell the car so she could go on vacation, many of us grew up in loving families with parents that went to great lengths to shield us from the hardships. So we do have fond memories of our childhood... despite the system.

what happened to you mungiu? Ill be interesting to watch a film "for the masses" don by you...stick to what you know, that's what's important or youll have your first flop..

Unfortunately the director of California Dreamin` is no longer between us, he got killed in 2006 in car accident. His name was Cristian Nemescu, the guy talking here is Cristian Mungiu the winner of Palm D`or in 2007 with "4 months, 3 weeks and two days"
