John does write his own songs. The Heavier Things album (including Daughters) says all songs written and composed by John Mayer. He also talks about how he wrote Daughters on VH1 Storytellers.

Dude that was a joke... it was a joke interview... John most definitely writes all of his songs. The only ones not entirely written by him are some of his most earliest songs, some which are co-written with other people.
