Official unemployment rates in the United States hover around 10 percent, even though many experts believe the real numbers are much higher. But for young adults in America, the situation is even worse. 54 percent of Americans under the age of 25 are unemployed according to the labor department. It's taking many college graduates over a year to land a steady job, and many are in hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt.

  • If you went to college to party and took an easy liberal arts major while expecting a big paying job out of college, I have absolutely ZERO sympathy for you. If you took out a huge loan, I will laugh at you.

I went to college for a mechanical engineering education, worked my ass off, graduated last year, and make $65000/yr. I only applied at two companies too, and got two job offers. College should be used to prepare you for a job, not as a party house.

  • $200,000!!!! MORON!!!!

  • 1:40 typical spoiled american. Plenty of people are hiring throughout the US, if you can't work at Waffle House, Walmart, Mcdonalds, Burger King, etc. then no need to cry about jobs.

  • @packerfan748 - At least the Sri-Lankan fisherman has a job!

  • @gigatasta - Lucky you...Be nice and don't flaunt it then...

  • Depending upon the major (and even having one that jives with the current job market needs)...College graduates that actually are employed are maybe getting $10 an hour @ the local Home Depot, Lowe's, (Forget Wal-Mart - you're going to be slated for Pink-Slip-City when you get close to reaching that), etc...and even then, it's usually nowhere near 40 hours...Sad...Makes you almost wonder why you wasted your time...

  • @maxell1221 wow nice man...mechanical engineering now thats what you call a college degree!!

  • @gigatasta I agree that you should party, but what if I'm alergic to alcohol and other substances?

  • @maxell1221 they'll lay you off after you hit 75k, and you wont find a job after that :D

  • I partied hard in college while majoring in philosophy. Straight out of college my fraternity offered me a six figure job as Director of Operations. I laugh at my electrical engineering counterparts having their asses outsourced. It's not what you know. It's who you know. Maxell1221. i will laugh at you the day you get laid off or get your ass outsourced. your just lucky like me. party hard you have the rest of your life to make money ppl

  • Its not the degree that matters its what you do with it.....and I agree. Not everyone can be an engineer, scientist, doctor or lawyer. We need diverse careers because people are diverse. What about teachers, and social workers, nurses, hell even truck drivers. The point is, we can't all do the same thing. If we did, how would society function? Who would teach your kids while you're stuck in that research lab all day Mr. Scientist?
