I think you have missed the point. We do not have to prove that bipolar disorder is an actual pathology - you do. Symptoms are one thing. That certain symptoms exist do not prove that the diagnosis is correct and "real" or scientifically provable. And this proof is critical to making sure that the "cure" is reasonable, safe and effective, in this case highly poisonous drugs that have killed tens of thousands of people that we know of.
