You're missing his point. This isn't smoking, this is roasting. Smoking is indirect heat. You have the toaster elements right over the meat. And using polymers from clothing as a fire source for the smoke, could be dangerous. That was his point.
If you are wanting to make a smoker, there's better ways of doing that, besides being a fire hazard like this thing.

You know nothing about smoking! You used trash to create smoke, the hot dogs were not smoke cooked, the toaster element simply roasted them!
