Understanding Feminism Fail

Feminism is not a dirty word.
A response to what appear to be misunderstandings of feminism.

Are you a feminist? I think so....the real question is what kind?

My basic feminism litmus test:
Do you believe women and men are equal?
Do you believe women are treated unequally?
Do you believe gender shouldn't be a factor in hiring and salary?
Do you believe women should be treated equally?
If you answered yes to some or all of these questions, then you are a feminist.

Feminism = women are equal to men and should be treated as such.

Do you believe that divorce settlements and child custody should not be based on gender?

Do you think the court should treat a woman that hits a man the same as a man that hits a woman? Is it as funny for a woman to hurt a man as it is for a man to hurt a woman?

Do you think that over 90% of workplace deaths and that the vast majority of homeless and suicides or male are approachable topics to discuss without blaming the victims?

These questions are never asked?

When you use the terms equality/equity - I would prefer to call it 'humanism' to 'feminism'. It sounds less like trying to increase the weight on one side of the balance to match the other (a more aggressive connotation), and more like simply levelling out the balance.

It's not about empowering a certain demographic, it's about equality for all demographics. Would that be the same thing?

Okay, let's get technical, because word definitions and time frames are important. Are you talking about modern feminism, or are you talking about the original use of the word "feminism" during the time of the Suffragist movement? You see, modern feminism holds to a socialist ideal of "equality", where government power is used to forcefullly coerce equal outcomes. That's immoral.

Wrong. Your statement is simply not true. And, it is patently absurd for feminists to even make this claim in the first place. For example, I believe in equal rights for both genders and I am opposed to gender discrimination, and I hate feminism. I fight against feminism whenever and wherever it rears its ugly head. It is YOUR misunderstanding of the word that gets you in trouble.

ANSWER TO QUESTION#1: No. Men and women are different. However, they should have the same legal rights and opportunities to succeed OR FAIL.

ANSWER TO QUESTION#2: No. In certain circumstances it is appropriate to exclude one gender from certain jobs.

ANSWER TO QUESTION#3: Not necessarily. Sometimes a man might simply be a better performer than a woman with the same experience, and vice versa.

However, let's assume I answered yes to these questions. THAT DOES NOT MAKE ME A FEMINIST!!!

Feminism is to do exclusively with women's rights, not equality. Humanism is about equality. Women who want gender equality, and recognize men's problems, as well as other similar problems, are humanists, and are mislabeling themselves if they call themselves feminists.
