Whilst holidaying abroad, I'd noticed that my phone was using data, despite Data Roaming being switched off. I'd disabled all of my email accounts and Data roaming was off. I had no visible data connection, but I was convinced that my usage was creeping up. I was updating a blog (offline) and uploading it sporadically, over wifi at a local town. I had tried to use the networks data, but it was useless. It took me 1 day to rack up around 1.5mb, in this one clip of a minute in length, 17kb is used. By just downloading headers. To avoid this, turn off cellular data as well or put your iphone in Airplane mode. This will result in infuriating nags, but it will halt your data usage and avoid a costly bill at the end of your holiday.

  • @sotossendos11 Apologies, I don't understand. I tried google translate, but that didn't help much. If you're asking if I'm a Cypriot, I'm not I'm from the Uk and I was on holiday in Cyrpus. I use o2 in the Uk, but was roaming. Hope this helps

  • eisai kipraios?

  • @MacbookSoftware When you're using cellular data, both sent and received count towards your data plan. So your total usage is the sum of both. This is on an o2 data plan sourced from the UK. I can't comment on other networks. Although I would suspect they all bill the same. O2 have also changed the way that they bill, so that your bill will not reach higher that £34.04, although I'd suspect if your bill cycle spans two months, you could see this charge levied towards you twice. Hope this helps.

  • Does the "send" and "received" count toward your data plan? Or just "send"? Or just "received"?? Please answer

  • @NewcastleUnitedd Yes, Airplane mode works and I realised while I was out there (when updating my blog) that you can enable wifi whilst in Airplane mode too. You can also turn off cellular data (which is what I did) which means you can still take calls and texts, but every time you go into your SMS app, you get a pop up telling you to turn on cellular data. Oddly, you can still send MMS even with cellular data off.

  • egg10000, So can i put aiplane mode on abroad and then not recieve messages and calls e.t.c..?
