Tel-Aviv University demos quantum superconductors locked in a magnetic field. Suspending a superconducting disc above or below a set of permanent magnets. The magnetic field is locked inside the superconductor ; a phenomenon called 'Quantum Trapping'. For more info visit: http://www.quantumlevitation.com

  • So if this is true, than it looks as though we have found a way to produce energy without using energy... or at least using very little energy.

  • i really think this is fake..no gloves!!!! health and safety is out the window here..:P

  • @MrSerpentish You may be right, but if you have seen the many other videos of the Meissner effect they use the same sort of liquid nitrogen cooled superconductor.

I do agree that this is a bit different. In the other videos the superconductor is cooled in a pool of liquid nitrogen and a magnet floated above it. In this one they have the brilliant idea of cooling the superconductor and having it move above a series of magnets.

  • @subductionzone I don't think the implication was that the effect is a new discovery, just that the application is one that hasn't been seen before. That disc uses yttrium barium copper oxide which is kind of unique because it can achieve superconductivity above liquid nitrogen's boiling point. Most other superconductors require much cooler temperatures. I'm just taking a guess though.

  • Future of Transport any one???

  • @BlastinTrex No, because there still is some air resistance.

  • will it keep going around and around at a constant speed forever if it were immune to warming up?

  • @anakin808

It is theorized that there are substances in the earths mantle that have superconductor properties closer to room temperature, the problem is getting them or synthesizing them in a lab.

  • Outrageously cool! Great music choice too.
