Poem: Eino Leino, Music: Sanni Orasmaa
The sun comes down on wild woods / Water shimmering as gold / But more golden shimmer the rushes / And the straits and the island's point / Oh, restless soul if only you could find peace here / Let go of all the memories / Not dream of dreams that were / Who could hide that gold of the sun in his heart / And be a stranger to himself / Like rushes and shimmering water

The Finnish poet and journalist Eino Leino (1878 - 1926) is considered one of the pioneers of Finnish poetry. In his work, Leino combined the archaic and mythic tradition as well as symbolism with his romantic concept of the artist as a truth-seeking visionary. The translation included is meant to serve as reference only and by no means gives right to the beauty of the original poem.
