This car has had overheating problems for years. It finally blew a head gasket. or so we think. There's water in the exhaust and water in the oil. It runs on four cylinders, so we checked all the plugs and pulled out the two that were wet. Then we fired it up and found that the water pump pushes water into the cylinder, and with the plugs out, the compression pushes the water out of the plug hole. When the plugs were in it, the water was pushed past the piston rings, hence the water in the oil. Everybody thought I should be the one to take the motor apart to check the head out. I have no experience working on modern cars or engines, so it was going to be interesting

  • It's a long story.. We pulled the head off to change the gasket. The gasket looked fine, but the head was warped. We took it to the machine shop so they could machine it down. They magnafluxed it and found that it was cracked, so we went to a salvage yard and got a different head. We put it all back together and the car ran fine for about a week, then it started overheating and getting water in the oil. Hmmm... CRACKED BLOCK!! The car now has a different motor with less than 30,000 miles on it

  • I'm having the same problem with my Taurus. No oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil but getting alot of water out of the tail pipe. I am going to pull the heads off tomorrow and inspect them and probably have them magnafluxed as well to make sure they are not cracked. Hope it was just the gasket.

  • I feel bad for people that this happens too, i have a 99 taurus with the ohv vulcan engine with over 205,000 miles on the odo and never had a problem with it and still runs really good.

  • Hi Briggs, did you finish changing the head gasket on the Taurus? My head gasket went on my 2000 Taurus today.....grrrh. I was an 45 minutes from home on the highway. A huge cloud of white smoke followed my down the highway and my temp guage was indicating the engine heat was coming up. Any idea of the cost involved in changing the head gasket? Much appreciated if you could provide some tips etc.....
