I will be your dust pan
If you'll be my broom
We could work together
All around the room
I will be your clothes pin
Be my p I will be your dust pan
If you'll be my broom
We could work together
All around the room
I will be your clothes pin
Be my pulley line
We'll hang out together
Wouldn't that be fine
I will be your dish pan
If you'll be my dish
We'll meet after meals dear
What more could you wish
I will be your window
Be my window shade
That's a porter's love song
To a chambermaid.
Benny Goodman went to LA post WWII and cut some sextet sides with local talent, among whom was a very young Jimmy Rowles on piano. He is also the author of The Ballad of Thelonius Monk recorded by Carmen McCrae at Donte's. Little known but very influential among musicians, who picked up on his creative dissonances. RIP Jimmy.

As knowledgeable as I am about Jazz this is a musician I missed along the way. I recently bought a book that honors Jimmy Rowles as a fine musician.

Would that be Howard Roberts?

I agree... a great sense of humor... back in 1942, I spent many evenings at Billy Berg's Club Capri in LA, listening to the Lee and Lester Young band. Jimmy was the pianist and a crowd favorite, and a lot of fun to talk to between sets.

Jimmy was a sweet, sweet person, a phenomenal pianist and a great, undersung composer. As this song shows, he also had a wonderful sense of humor!

No, it's someone who was once called a "dirty guitar player."
