'The first monastery here was founded in AD 657 by King Oswy of Northumbria. An Anglo-Saxon style 'double monastery' for men and women, its first ruler was the formidable royal princess Abbess Hild. Here, Caedmon the cowherd was miraculously transformed into an inspired poet; here, the future of the English church was decided by the Synod of Whitby in 664; and here the relics of Northumbrian kings and saints were enshrined.'
Music - Song for Athene, by John Tavener performed by the Westminster Abbey Choir.

@Elijahway14 I know, there was a building opposite that had been restored and turned into a tourist info attraction, and it explained what daily life would have been like for the monks living there, long before any of the 'modern' history that we know had even occurred. One thing's for sure, they built their monasteries sturdy!
And yes I did film it when I visited there last summer. It's such a nice place on a good day. Windy though! :)
