Prelude is a 1987 Moody Blues compilation album consisting of non-album singles and rarities.

Tracks 1-5 were previously released on singles in 1967 prior to the release of Days of Future Passed. They are the first Moody Blues releases to feature Justin Hayward and John Lodge. "A Simple Game" later became a minor hit for the Four Tops. Tracks 7-11 formed the "+5" portion of the 1977 Caught Live + 5 album. "Late Lament," which rounds out the album, is the Graeme Edge poem that appears at the end of Days of Future Passed. Though many of these tracks have also appeared on other releases, such as the Time Traveller box set and the 2006 SACD album remasters, Prelude is the only release that contains all eleven rarities.

  • @spacepatrolman mike pinder was in charge of quality control in the mellotron factory and he had some input into its developement he told them to take out the drum sounds and put space sounds instead making it more professional because you dont need drum sounds if your playing with a drummer thats for in a living room

  • @bluegin24 All these plus 5 songs sound like unfinished tracks like they didnt get around to putting a mellotron on them or maybe they didnt have a mellotron yet

  • Not one of the common Moodies songs but, nonetheless, an excellent choice. Thanks for a great video!

  • beautiful

  • Sheer perfection! A wonderful song paired with a slideshow of great pics. John's baby-faced closeup at time 2:26 stopped my heart. And, Mike was quite handsome with hair and sans 'stache. Yes, this vid is a treat for both the eyes and ears. Mike's smoky lead vocals combined with John and Justin's high harmonies are sublime! This is one of my fave lesser-known MB songs. Many thumbs up- and playlisted. :)

  • Great stuff Drew. Reminds me of the Classics IV and the Mamas & the Papas. Go figure.
