Jim Valentine sitting in with Pete Fountain's band January 1994. It was one the greatest moments of my musical career.

  • You and Mr. Fountain are my heros. Before I first heard the music played by the both of you, I almost gave up the clarinet, and possibly music altogether. Now, I play lead clarinet in my school orchestra and am currently the only clarinet in the jazz band, which according to my teacher is so because "clarinets aren't jazz instrument." Guess which two people I'm using as my defence? :)

Thanks so much for everything. After grad this year, my friends and I are making a jazz band, soley of winds.

  • Top musicians! Pete has always been a favorite, the rest of the band is superb! Thanks for letting those out in cyber land enjoy this extraordinary music,,Love it!!

  • That's amazing

  • I got to see Pete & his Band play here in Yakima, WA & later at his Club in New Orleans... Great guys... We had a blast after the show. Did a Jam Session in outside back of the theater, then that night we all went out for drinks & dinner!!!

They are Cool & Crazy Cats!!!

    Thanks for sharing your video!!!

  • Clarinet is not a Jazz instrument? SHHHHHHEEEEEEIIITTT! What planet is this moron from?

  • @Abriggs500 I think it depends on the genre. I played flute for 15 years, then took a 35 year hiatus for folk music (guitar and banjo), then came back to the flute 5 years ago. I played lots of jazz, but never Dixieland, though I loved it. Now I'm learning the clarinet to play Dixie. I don't think the flute is a Dixie horn. Modern? Sure. Clarinet : Dixie? Sure. Modern? I dunno.

  • I have a question that is open to anyone for answering. How come school jazz bands say "clarinets are not a jazz instrument or that they aren't allowed in jazz?" I don't get it. Do they not know of the history of jazz? Are they ignorant? Anyone have a solution to this commonly asked and discussed matter? Thanks.

  • @blitzgun1 Good for you man.. Any instrument can play Jazz as long as the person ha soul.. I am also a clarinet and Jazz is my favourite
