He's been called "The Pope of Trash", the king of bad taste, provocateur and hero of the cinematic underground. John Waters chats with SIFFTalk briefly before his Talking Pictures presentation of CECIL B. DEMENTED at the Egyptian Theatre on June 3, 2008. He proffers advice to new filmmakers and talks about a couple of his current favorite films, including BEFORE I FORGET which is playing at SIFF on Friday, June 13, 2008 at Pacific Place Cinemas, and Guy Maddin's MY WINNIPEG which will be playing after the festival at SIFF Cinema, opening on June 27.

  • wow, what a shame, can you imagine! a movie will never be released cos the director/producer cant pay for the music bits in the film...art destroying art because of money..I love john he great..:-)

  • @BettyBicycle I used to listen to his "stand up" show "this filthy world", i feel asleep like a baby everytime.

  • I love his voice and personality. He's so blunt.

  • Good interview.

I never really got Guy Madden. I respect his work and acknowldge that he has a following, but I just could never feel his stuff.

  • John Waters is funny and long.

  • A date with john waters, love it!

  • SMART as he is funny ...

THANKS for sharing this with us.

  • I love to listen to him. He seems like one of the most fun people to hang around with ever. But I don't care for X Rated movies though.

  • I discovered John as a little kid when i saw Serial Mom on TV (Sci/Fi channel no less). Fan ever since.

  • Me too! I find his intro to "A date with John Waters" to be quite relaxing. :)
