Researchers at Duke University have made initial steps toward creating artificial limbs that can not only move like real limbs, but also sense touch. Electrodes were implanted into both the motor and sensory areas of the brains of two rhesus monkeys. The monkeys moved a virtual hand on a screen and were rewarded for choosing an object which yielded an electronic sensation of texture. The study proves two-way communication between brain and computer is possible. Source: Nature
