Second flight in 2011, first broken downtube in my hang gliding career.

Just a few thoughts:

- awful launch (thanks Captain Obvious!)

- I thought I was safe after the launch and correcting to the left but apparently I wasn't; perhaps I should have pulled in more for speed or corrected more? Probably both...

- I consciously taken my hands of the downtubes just before the glider hits the ground - something I've learned before the hard way almost breaking my arms; so yeah, do that when you're going to crash in a second.

  • It seems that the slope you're launching from is not steep enough. You can hardly clear the hill :-) At 0:22 - 0:23 it seems you're flying too slow. From the camera's perspective it looks like you're flying with your arms straight.

  • @sorenladegaard1 Thanks for the comment. The hill is actually pretty cool for learning/training. It is my terrible launch that makes it seem hard to launch from. As for the speed you're definitely right about that...

  • dont try to get away from the ground by pushing out - you will stall and lose control.

  • @andylong610 i agree. downhill landings are tough, and steep launches are easier.

  • Watched all your videos. Here is what I think. When you are flying at the steeper hill at Mieroszów, you quickly are higher in the air so any drops in altitude on your flight you don't notice. Your landings there are better because it's flat.

On the gradual slope hill, you push out and fly slow to keep distance from the ground. That is what is causing your stalls. Fly this hill only when there's more lift to keep you higher off the ground. Fly at best glide. And land where it's flat.

  • lol - I remember all that (we landed in a field full of cow pats), pretty good flying once you got clear air anyhow.

  • When so close to the ground , take every opportunity to grab all the speed you can (without being crazy about it) . This is energy in your pocket to allow you to climb over any humps etc. and gives more precise control.

  • yes too slow , keep your speed for high stability at low altitude

  • you should more practise

  • so fucking hard landing
