  • Since 1975, I've seen Chicago perform live 16 times, 15 times with Danny, once with Tris. Danny NEVER lost his chops. The problem must have been somewhere else. Plenty of times I flinched when Jimmy or Lee hit sour notes on their solos, or would grimmace when Bobby or even Peter would sound off key. Jeff and Jason, uh, plenty of times I just wanted to plug my ears. But in all those concerts, Danny always came through. He was the best musician in the group. Chicago isn't the same without him.

  • Great point. After 19 years of leading Chicago musically and after starting the foundation of the band that was to become Chicago with Kath, there was no need for these clowns to bad mouth Danny Seraphine. A simple "musical disagreement" talking point was enough. And you're right about his drum fills being the standout of Chi's tunes. He was the most natural as well as most polished musician in the band, with every drum hit filled with inspiration and creativity.

  • @kritikkal Absolutely an AMAZING book. I couldn't put it down until I finished it and handed it to my father who learned how to play by watching and listening to Danny.

  • Danny was not stabbed in the back, this video Japan 1989,the same tour he and his drum tech got into a fist fight, his second fisticuffs with an employee of the band. He also wasn't in a musical disagreement,he was playing poorly, out of line and out of control. Most people who hit people at work get fired, he did it twice before he was. Personally I would like to have seen him take a leave and get his act together, and he did improve his playing at the end but the damage was done, sadly.

  • A couple of months ago I was driving down the freeway when I passed a billboard that had an advertisement for a Chicago show at a local casino. I thought about going, but remembering about how upset I was when Danny got stabbed in the back I said to myself "No Thanks !". Nothing against Tris, but to me Chicago ceased to exist after Danny left.

Danny is the greatest, and I still feel that his solo in "I'm A Man" one of the best (if not the best) that I have ever heard.

  • Still, nice hair piece Danny! LOL. This did sound great! Plus, I loved your book. Thanks for sharing your story!

  • @luke3jes Couldn't agree more....Danny's drumming on CTA & Chicago II is absolutely astounding!

  • If you like Danny's drumming, I suggest picking up his memoir, "STREET PLAYER - MY CHICAGO STORY". It's a great book!!

  • @stuckincorona Ditto times three.

  • Here is a prime example of the distinct difference between Danny Seraphine and Tris Embodden's drumming stylw with Chicago. "25 or 6 to 4", Seraphine played it like a jazz drummer, Tris plays it like a soft rock ballad 80s-style band. Specifically, the triplet da de da da - Danny off-played it with the snare and hi-hat subtle-like where Tris hits every note on the snare and the stage spot lights extenuate it - just not as classy as the old Chicago version of 25 or 6 to 4.

  • great

  • Chicago sold out to the pressure of the music video in the 80's, just like every other band in the free world that wanted to make a name in mainstream American "music". Bon Jovi (et al) came along, and made it "necessary" to include tits and ass into "music", which eventually led to the (un)need for talent, which is why Danny was dismissed from the band. Chicago no longer wanted (or needed) the most talented drummer, but the most eye appealing scenario which was Cetera and (gulp) Champlin. RIP!
