This movie makes me think of my grandpa. He also was a POW, but he was captured by the British and sent somewhere in England. He never talked about it, he was never at peace after this experience, and took on drinking, as to forget all that. May he be in peace now.

I love this movie, especially sgt. Hara who, at times, could show shocking brutality but, at others, show suprising humanity toward the pows. the duality of mankind.

This scene always moves me to tears...
In this day and age when something like Christmas is so commercialized, the simple, yet pure, utterance by Kitano Takeshi's character strikes a chord in my heart.
Such a shame Kitano was in that motorcycle accident and had his face's right side paralyzed...he had such great expression.
