My name is Maria. I'd like to tell you about a major issue. Its your personal concern. It's the concern of your nearest and dearest, of all the people living on the planet. It's inevitable absolutely for everybody! But surprisingly little is known about it. Its not a common practice to talk about this problem and moreover to try to solve it.
What do you think about 30 million lives? Just imagine that all the people in Denmark, Austria, Finland, Israel and New Zealand disappeared in one year. Would you consider it a problem? But no one pays attention. The catastrophe happens daily. 100,000 deaths a day is normal.
AIDS, hunger and flu virus, in terms of mortality, are not even remotely comparable to the problem Id like to tell you about. I am talking about aging. It is aging that causes most diseases; it causes pain and suffering, brings frailty and loneliness. Aging is the main cause of death.
Nobody truly and explicitly knows why it is happening. There are many ideas, hypotheses and theories. Maybe, aging is mediated by telomere shortening. Perhaps, it is associated with oxidative stress. Or with cell loss. Or with functional changes in biological systems of an organism. We need to learn a lot. Why do animals with negligible senescence exist? Are there any self-destructive programs encrypted in our genome?
There are many puzzles and mysteries in the mechanisms of aging. Equally puzzling is why the fight against aging is not yet on the worlds agenda. Are just a few people interested in why we are aging?
There are plenty ideas about how to prolong human life, how to prolong youth, how to make a human being potentially healthier and hence happier. For that we must learn to ensure genome stability, to normalize gene expression, to influence protein turnover processes, to resist cellular aging, accumulation of damage in a cell and extracellular matrix, we must learn to restore immunity and hormonal regulation. Grand scientific breakthroughs have already been made. Researchers are able to reprogram cells, to influence epigenetic regulation, to grow new organs, to significantly extend lifespan of model animals.
However, its the fundamental biogerontology that receives little funding. Its all because the most important thing is missing there is no political will.
The world is in need of a megaproject on the fight against aging. It is the most complicated task in the human history. Individuals cannot accomplish it. Scientific mobilization is needed. Even a partial slowdown of aging could save hundreds of millions of human lives. Its hard to think of a more honorable political task.
There are people now preparing an expedition to Mars. Id like to propose another trip to you: lets visit the year 2100. Id also like to remind Oscar Wildes words to all who still doubt: Nothing is worth doing except what the world says is impossible. Many of what was declared science fiction is reality nowadays. And its only up to you if you are going to become a traveler to the future. Lets solve this problem together. My name is Maria Konovalenko, I represent the Science for Life Extension Foundation.

  • There is also a problem SLEEPING.

man sleeps 30% of the time of his life, which makes real-time life of even shorter

  • Actually, sleep may be the reason why we live a little longer. Repair systems are active whille we're asleep. They're cleaning out the accumulated damage. Scientists need to study the relationship between sleep and aging more carefully.

  • @21LightLove - Faith teaches you to pray you are worthy of admittance into the "best" reality. Good luck with that. Back in the real world: About 2 yrs ago, I was on my death bed. What was I doing? Praying for entry into heaven? Hahaha... no. I was laughing and talking about how great a lucky opportunity THIS life is; the good, bad, the ugly. Do I want to live forever? Oh, yeah! Do I believe *heaven* is the ticket? YESSS! THIS, my friend, is all the heaven you'll ever get. Wise up!

  • I don't think the only problem there is NO progress on this problem is a Political one. I think a lot, and most of people feel that the average life span is long enough. Not including many things like murder which is not related to aging.

  • .......think about how fast humanity was able to develop the atomic bomb after hahn and meitner discovered the basics in ´39. If there´s only enough money for the best researchers and their institutes and a close connection between them there could be enormous progress within the next years. Politics will not coordinate this . Go and donate to the research team you consider to be the best..............

  • one simple question

at least it is the most important for me,,,,,i know it is kinda stupid,,but please reply me .....

is there any hope to extend the life span of human being more than regular,,,,or anything against aging.

    thanks for reading. :D

  • If anyone is interested feel free to join my facebook group "life extension be an important priority"

  • @21LightLove No, I will not be an angry old gray haired man because A) I guarantee my hair will never be gray, B) I want to live forever but I'm not going to be bitter if I can't, because that wouldn't help me at all. I'll maximize whatever lifespan I have, and C) I can want something without becoming angry or bitter if I don't receive it.

  • @Aphradonis Well my friend, no matter how old you are you will die of old age in this lifetime and you will get very bitter about getting older while I on the other will not. I would hate to see your face on your death bed when you are an old gray haired man. I am sorry but this kind of cure to live and stay young forever in your life time will not happen, I believe there is an afterlife and that is all I have to say, Love God, he created you!

  • I don´t believe you, fucking russian

  • @mark10147 Say you live for one hundred years. You are healthy, happy, youthful, wealthy, and have an excellent network of friends and family. You can indulge your every whim with the help of sophisticated entertainment technology, including virtual reality. You can visit other planets. There's always more to learn, more to experience. But you'd decide to just end it? Just dissemble your consciousness because of some notion that your life has been too long? I certainly would not!
