@WTG15WTG17 i know what your talking about and i learned that in biomechanics, but im saying take a look at standing vertical jump vs running vertical jump. lets also say on both the person jumps equally high but obviously on the running one he/she will have more horizontal momentum. i dont know how it compares statistically as ive never done it but just from observation i can see theres a difference. i dont know why though
-
@DjGoGo09 When you jump vertically and horizontally, your horizontal motion still depends on you initial vertical velocity. Horizontal and vertical velocities don't really combine, you can think of them as two separate entities. The initial vertical velocity still is the only figure that matters as far as time in the air, because once you come down to the ground you cant move horizontally anymore anyways. Wikipedia "galileo leaning tower of pisa experiment" to confirm mass does not matter.

@WTG15WTG17 i dont think thats true. you know when you jump straight up ur just going up and then down, but when you also have horizontal velocity, you will have an upside down U or V shape, with a peak at the top. jumping 40 inches vertically (straight up) and jumping 40 inches vertically from the free throw line to the basket is different. thats your hangtime, since you will be in the air longer than the one jumping just straight up. it a combination of horizontal and vertical velocity.

@WTG15WTG17 I write terribly, sorry for the grammar errors.
-
@DjGoGo09 That is technically in correct. Not counting air resistance, grabbing the rim, ect. Someone who jumps 40 inches off the ground will spend approximately .91 seconds in the air regardless of their weight. If someone weighs more they have to push off harder from the ground but once they reach the critical vertical jump initial velocity (in a vacuum haha) gravity accelerates their speed down exactly the same as someone who weighs differently.
-
@WTG15WTG17 you first say theres no such thing as hangtime hen you say "The time you stay in the air for anybody depends on a few physics equations"..dude that IS hangtime, thats the definition. and it does not necessarily follow how high someone jumps. for example, athlete A weighs 50kg and athlete B weighs 100kg but they both have a 40 inch vertical. athlete A is staying in the air longer because the gravitational pull is weaker since he has a lower mass.

you know,i've got big feet for my height and arm spand a couple of inches longer than my height...but damn, jerome's arms are waaay longer than mine...and also that bro i think sergio is his name,he's got huge arm spand...i'd kill for such long arms :D
that bro's got huge arms :O
