A lifetime ago in the folk clubs of Sheffield this was one of several ragtime and blues songs made popular by Dave Deighton and Robin Lovell - still both alive and kicking. It can be a really amusing song, especially if you are capable of saying misery with a long zzz in the middle. There are not many verses, so I have added a couple about goats and broccoli. I think a goat is inherently a funny animal - and what good things can you say about broccoli? The real song dates from way back, maybe 1930-ish. The guitar is a bit of a mess, but so's the farm...

  • Thanks for your comment. Sorry it took so long to reply. It's just in G, normal tuning, with C and D7. The unusual chord is A. And it sounds just as good in C (with F and G7, plus unusual D). I have never heard an original version, just Dave Deighton's version (in C) - and I see he has recently posted some new stuff, 40 years on. Regards...
