  • The ultimate fanny magnet :)

  • Paul, I have owned my 2.8i as a dry weather use classic for nigh on 16 yrs. I have enlarged the engine to 3,000cc & fitted a new Turbo Technics system & seventh injector. Uprated brakes, poly bushed suspension, uprated gearbox with tweaked ratios to match those of the 4 speed box- 230 Bhp & 282 lbs ft of torque-BIG FUN. Like ANY rear wheel drive car with plenty of poke, the rear end can be hairy if abused. Traction control is down to ones right foot. Most Capris were crashed by CRAP drivers!

  • @LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH Update- following visit to Ric Wood Motorsport, a fault with the seventh injector-which had never operated(!) resulted in 265 BHP & 292 lbs ft of torque being achieved-monstrous! :)

  • @LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH So you like to attack the bends do you?

  • @whitbyjet65 I never issued a statement that implied I am the ONLY driver on the planet who has been professionally trained. We are however, a very small minority. Most will brake compulsively on the approach to a bend-just visit The Lake District and observe the vast majority of driver's do this when there is absolutely no necessity to do so. Most driver's floor it on straights & then brake excessively for bends, they frequently upset the balance of the car by doing so. They have little feel.

  • @whitbyjet65 I have no intention of making any further disclosure re the nature my professional driving qualifications, or how I utilise them on a daily basis on a public forum. Suffice to say I have being using them for over fourteen years without incident. I know this for a fact, the vast majority of drivers have little, or no grasp of what their car is actually capable of. Just observe how MOST driver's comfort brake on the approach to bends when there is no necessity to do so- very poor.

  • @whitbyjet65 Grow up mon ami. If you regard a car that was launched 30 years ago with a 0-60 time of 7.9 seconds and a top end nigh on 130 mph as, 'Hopelessly slow & outdated,' what do you drive? A Ferrari? I suspect not. It was one of the the quickest road cars of the day, and it is more than capable of keeping up with modern traffic, that is the only point that is relevant. It hardly qualifies as a Model T Ford does it? The motoring press loved the 2.8i as a general rule for it's handling!

  • @LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH Oh!!! So what you have ISN'T a Capri 2.8i. You actually have a much modified Capri. Why? Because the Capri in its original guise is hopelessly slow & outdated. Thanks for comfirming my point. Who said I drive a Golf??? I never said that!

  • @whitbyjet65 Oh dear, you do take things VERY seriously don't you. Fragile ego perhaps?! lol Slow & hopelessly outdated? Feel free to bring along a tin box Golf R32 if you fancy your chances against a car which is far lighter & now punts out 292 ft lbs of torque at 3,500 rpm and over 260 Bhp. Ring up Rick Wood Motorsport & ask him about my car if you are so interested- converted to 3000cc, 7th injector fitted & turbo charged. 0-60 in the very low 5 second region. Cheerio! :)

  • @whitbyjet65 You asked me to quantify my initial comment by querying my driving experience. I answered your question & justified my opinion, hardly supercilious. Evidently you know little about the Capri, or the development of the 2.8i Injection. You have quoted an article from 1978- a whole THREE years before the 2.8i Capri was launched with completely revised suspension set up ie spring ratings & Bilstein gas dampers. There is no comparison between a 78 car and a 2.8i in terms of handling.

  • @LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH But hey! If you think Capris are so good on the road, maybe that's a reflection of your ability behind the wheel. I suppose a slow, hopelessly outdated motor car WILL seem good to you. By the way, it takes more than a few weeks of lessons to become an expert driver. I suggest you're really just a boy racer with a fragile ego.

  • @LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH And why do you assume you're the only driver on the planet who has been professionally trained? Your supercilious demeanour is staggering. Autocar 1978 (C&P): 'corners and traction was very poor in the wet'. Ok they didn't use the word abysmal but maybe they were being polite. I also have an edition of Motor when they put a Capri head to head with a Mk1 Golf Gti. The Golf is light years ahead in every department.
