For a high school student who has been playing guitar for only about three years, Melissa Brooke of Port Aransas is compiling quite the musician's resume.
Brooke has sung and played guitar at dozens of shows (not all of them were paying gigs, but hey ...), and she is in the process of recording a Texas country music album. She even has started getting some airplay on radio station KBSO (Bandlands 94.7 FM) in Corpus Christi.
The 18-year-old PAHS senior said she's hoping to make music her career.
"Music is my poetry, my art, my sport," said Brooke, whose last name actually is Estrada, but she prefers her middle name, Brooke. "People show how they feel through writing or drawing or running, but me, I let people hear my emotions through songs. That's what's so cool about it. I'm able to be myself in my music and see others enjoy what I love."
