  • Check out June Tabor's take on this song. It is wondrous as well.

  • According to Allmusic, 'possibly the saddest and most beautiful of all the sad and beautiful songs written by Linda's ex-husband Richard'.

Good to find it here. Thanks you, Joni.

  • This is actually written By a great Sufi Saint from Morocco. Sidi Fudul Rahim Allah

  • Simon Nichol plays a lovely guitar in this performance!

  • @adjrean57 I took our exchange as play. 'Turning your back on yourself' brought to mind for me the notion of putting others first.

  • @Eyesayah Sorry. I didn't mean to offend you. I am sensitive to this because when I was married, I was mainly referred to as "Karl's wife", which made me feel like I had no identity of my own, but was more of a "possession" of my husband's. I'm not sure what is meant by "turning yur back on yourself",. It has a very poetic sound, though.

Linda is a beautiful woman and wonderful singer. She didn't get the credit she deserved for music they created together. I'm glad she is still singing.

  • @adjrean57 Those exclamation points, like daggers in my heart. Well, time wounds all heels. You are right of course, famous in his own right and very deserving too, in my opinion. Here he does not appear to be turning his back upon himself as the song lyrics suggest.

  • @Eyesayah Linda's ex-husband? Richard Thompson is famous in his own right, and not mainly known as Linda's husband!!!

  • @hallettscove There is another book: Richard Thompson: Strange Affair (biography) by Patrick Humphries.

The book you refer to is a mystery typs novel.

  • Richard Thompson supposedly based this great song on a poem by the Sufi poet Si Fudul al-Hawari. I found the song in NYC and I've carried it with me to Turkey at the start of 2011. I also want to read the book by the same title by Peter Robinson.

  • Very powerful.

  • @timpipe Yes!!! Iove her and she does a less-is-more take on it...so quiet and

    soulful...Just beautiful! Niall
