It was February and after the temperature got up in the 30s and lifted our hopes, it slammed back down below freezing and broke our hearts. Like a waiter bringing the lobster to your table for a moment and then remembering you're the guy who ordered the peanut butter sandwich.

Recorded live at the Fitzgerald Theater in Saint Paul, MN on February 21, 2009. Script and more information available at http://www.prairiehome.org

  • Love PHC!

  • Don't get me wrong. I love APHC, but these videos don't do it justice. It takes away from the format. The visual aspect seems to undermine the suspension of disbelief that comes much more naturally during a radio broadcast. Normally my imagination fills in the gaps and the result is a much funnier interpretation. With these videos I either find that I stare incredulously at the performance or I end up closing my eyes or looking elsewhere to recapture the radio experience.

  • When I heard they were making a movie about this, I started counting down the days. When I saw the movie, I punched my couch in frustration multiple times. How such an epic radio show make for such a shitty movie?!

  • Thank you for posting this. I've loved the movie and have watched it several times since it came out. I've just recently found out that the movie was based on an actual show. Since then I've been downloading the pod casts of "The News From Lake Wobegon. I live in Ottawa Ontario and can relate to Garrison's tales from Minnesota.

This show is a national treasure. Smart humor that doesn't rely on vulgarity.... who would have thunk it possible???

  • They need to release these as podcasts!

  • After watching the Prairie Home Companion movie on TV tonight, I had to get this song on itunes. Andy Stein on saxophone and Richard Dworsky on piano. I listen to it over and over.

  • reminds me of a redio play from 60 years ago
