The nature of Islam is the focus of this edition of CrossTalk, with Peter Lavelle and his guests. Islam is one of the world's major religions. However, some believe that Islam and its holy book the Quran is not a religion, but an ideology. If that is the case, what is the evidence? Is calling Islam an ideology the same as Islamophobia? Is the attempt to reject the Quran as a holy book the same as attempting to de-legitimize Islam?

  • whether i agree or not with Wafa, the moderator was not doing a fair job there. this is too partisan.

  • @LuckyDukeSeven Okay, this is really fucking annoying. Everyone who has ever willingly had sex with a child is a pedophile, understand? Pedophiles have sex with children, so yes, Abraham and Henry XIII and all the rest of them were pedophiles. But we're not talking about them, we're talking about Muhammad.

Pedophilia has literally always been wrong, whether or not certain societies see it as acceptable doesn't change the fact that it is wrong and will always be wrong.

  • @LuckyDukeSeven I can't believe you still don't get it. I don't care what the rest of the world does or did, that's not relevant. Muhammad wasn't supposed to be some everyday schmuck, he was supposed to be the prophet, so surely he would see through the fucked up customs of the 7th century? Wouldn't you expect the prophet to have decent morals? Not only did Muhammad have less-than-decent morals, he had terrible morals. Doesn't that make you question Islam?

  • @cornflakeclusters(Reply 3, read first two)

I do think pedophilia is wrong in this day and age. But if I were to step into a time machine and go back a few thousand years, who am I to tell Muhammed, Joseph, Socrates, Leonidas, Sun Tzu, Abraham or Henry XIII not to marry who they're marrying?

Have you ever thought of that?

So like I said, I respect your opinion. I just think you're a hypocrite unless you apply your criticism to the entire human race pre 1900.

    Farewell.

(Reply 2. read first one first)

If you must know the story behind why Aisha's father encouraged Muhammed to marry her (The two ages are 9 *explicitly given, and 16 years old *derived by her age of death and a battle she attended) it was because she was literate. She became the primary source for a thing called the historical record of Muhammed's mannerisms. This made her into the principal Islamic scholar after Muhammed's death in the Islamic community.

  • @cornflakeclusters

Kid, what I'm saying is simple. If you have a problem with Muhammed marrying a 9 year old, then you should have a problem with the entire human race pre-1900. Ok? It's that simple. You don't believe he's a prophet, right? So what's the relevance to you? He, George Washington's dad, Socrates and all the common folk from Lithuania to South Africa did the same damn thing for the last few million years man has been roaming around this planet.

    End of story.

  • @LuckyDukeSeven It really disturbs me how you don't actually think pedophilia is wrong, you just think it is "considered" wrong by our modern society. It's like you think that pedophilia is okay under certain circumstances. Please get this; pedophilia isn't wrong just because society says it's wrong, pedophilia is wrong because it's severe abuse.

Pedophilia is wrong no matter when it happens. Pedophilia is wrong because it seriously traumatizes the victim. It was wrong back then & it's wrong now

  • @LuckyDukeSeven You *keep* saying "Hey, other cultures were full of dirty pedophiles, so being a dirty pedophile can't be so bad after all." I have to keep repeating myself; why would Muhammad give a flying fuck about the customs of his day? Surely he would be a man of stern morality and he would refrain from putting his cock in children? I would rather not have kids than fuck a child (it makes it even worse that Muhammad already had 11 other wives).

God's prophet would not fiddle with kids.

  • @LuckyDukeSeven You're making no sense. You're saying that Muhammad had to fuck a 9-yr-old because otherwise he wouldn't have been able to pro-create, because life-expectancy was so short back then. But Muhammad had 11 wives overall, so that blows your pedophile-defending-excuses out of the water. There was no need to fuck a kid, he had 11 wives. A truly moral person would try to avoid ever having sex with a child. If Muhammad was the prophet of God, why didn't he eschew pedophilia?

  • @cornflakeclusters

    (Part 2)

If we still lived in a 2000 year old savage era where one could die at any moment from a bevy of afflictions, we'd be procreating a lot earlier. Children would be adapting to life a lot earlier. We'd all be trying to persevere our genotype before death. Forget the "prophet"- I'm talking about everyone.

Want to call Muhammed a Pedophile? Have at it. But categorize all pre 20th century humans under that banner as well- England to Japan.
