  • lol my dad always called my mom marie(her name is linda) i never knew why then he told me about this song

  • My husband and I had the opportunity to stand at the grave of Marie Laveau on a walking tour of New Orleans. Burials are above the ground in vaults in that part of Louisiana. There were all sorts of "offerings" on the ground around the grave and marks scratched in the soft stone and concrete walls of the tomb. Having grown up hearing this song, it was a real kick to visit her grave.

  • I was next door pickin' country music with my band CHEYENNE, over in GERMANY!!! LOL:)

  • OMG I have been looking for this song for 20 years!!!!!!!!! I remember hearing it on the radio in the mid 80's but haven't been able to find it since!

  • Southern Louisiana is mostly catholic...hence Mardi gras

  • @1963legion i just found the "papa" celestin of new orleans version of "marie laveau" which i mentioned in my comment before on you tube. amazing what you can find here..........

  • @1963legion "marie laveau" is an old new orleans traditional also done by dr. hook and the medicine show

rearranged by shel silverstein. i got a record from the early fifties with trumpeter "papa" celestin and band doing their version of it. who originally wrote it i have no clue though, most probably written in the 20ies...

  • @prairiemark Probably not, but apparently Catholicism has been a big influence on Voodoo.

  • @moominpic Louisiana is Baptist Bible belt on the North and Cagin Catholic in the South. I am not sure the Priest would like the song or practices anymore than the Baptists Parsons.
