A bit of gentle local color. Despite some notable exceptions (Jose Baguena Soler, Francisco Llacer Pla, Rafael Rodriguez albert, Amando Blanquer, etc) the music life in Valencia, during the past 20th century (mostly 1st half) was quite conservative: At the beginning of the past century the local premiere of Le Valse by Ravel was booed by the public (!). So this brings you a measure of how strongly conservative was (and still a bit is) this place. A couple of years ago, Zubin Mehta performed here Schoenberg's first Kammersinfonie with negative reception in some sectors of the public. Sometimes I hate this place...
