Double-strand breaks in DNA are the most crucial damage leading to cell death. One of the pathways to repair them is non-homologous end-joining (NHEJ) initiated by the binding of KU70 and KU80 proteins to the broken ends (1JEY.pdb: Walker et al. Nature vol.412, 607).
