I played "Kaigara Bushi" (Song of Shells), a Japanese folk song of Tottori prefecture, in Utah's Timpanogos cave. Flute is #6 Shinobue by Ranjo.

Right now the cave is in the heart of the mountain, but a long time ago the cave was the bottom of the ocean. This cave is composed largely of limestone and calcite. Other minerals can't form caves like this one. Limestone and calcite forms at the bottom of the ocean partly from the many shells that sink to the bottom there. So the rocks are all ancient shells. It kind of felt like I was performing for the spirit of all those shells and the spirit of the mountain. I think it kind of affected how I did the improvised section.

Thank you to the kind ranger who allowed me to play in the cave
