They were running after me like a pack of wolves. My feet began to race with the rhythm of my heart beat, hoping to go faster than the exhilaration running through my body. My eyes still hadn't adjusted to the darkness. I couldn't see where I was going, for what I knew I was running through a missile launch.
What happened to me? Where am I? How did I get here? And that ringing, the constant ringing. Since the moment I opened my eyes the ringing had haunted and it still hasn't stopped.
My body pushed harder as they gained on me. They. I didn't even know who I was dealing with, where I was, and for some reason I couldn't remember who I was either. The day- I wasn't sure if it even was a day, had gone by in a flash. My mind could barely grasp my name, rather than my whole day.
It had been different, today, very different.
I was driving a car that wasn't mine, or was it mine? I couldn't remember. I had gotten lost, the directions were a complete different language to me, and I can't quite remember where I was headed.
There was no form of life anywhere, a couple of tumble weeds, and desert everywhere I turned. I had let go of the car, thinking I would go back for it and began to walk. The sun was scorching hot, burning my skin.
I listened to the twigs crunch, not behind me, in front of me. My breath caught as I tumbled into him. He hit me like a brick wall, dragging me down to the forest's floor, stuffing my face so violently into the ground I found myself choking on dirt.
Forest, I immediately had recognized it. How had I gotten here? I was... I was in the desert, wasn't I?
After walking for miles, I had stopped, my legs were tired and my body was overheating. I laid down and awoke later. It was night when my eyes opened. And I heard their voices.
"Look over there!" a man had shouted. I heard feet, stomping over to my area. My mind was going wild. Colors, I saw colors, I remember, but mostly darkness.
A hand wrapped around my whole arm, tugging me to the rest of them. I heard their breathing, their talking, and knew there was more than one.
Before I reached them, I ripped away from him and began my escape. I could tell that... Those weren't the kind of people I wanted to help me.
My mind jolted back to the present. His body felt hard against mine, all muscle. He was wearing khaki pants and a plain shirt. When I looked up, his cold breath in my face, his eyes illuminated. Not a color I'd ever seen before, not a color that existed.
His eyes were like lights, not metaphorically, just lights. And they weren't kind, they were cold and harsh and before mine they seemed like the eyes of God.
I could hear the rest of them coming after me. And then the ringing grew louder.
It was a ring louder than anything, piercing my ears. My knees began to give out as I feel to the ground; I could feel the tears rushing behind my eyes. The noise was so loud, overpowering my body. I screamed in pain, the man closed his grip on me.
Everything felt so... Everything was slipping by me. Who am I again? I could feel myself forgetting. I was forgetting all of it and remembering today, all together... today? Or had it been a weekend? A week? I couldn't tell, everything felt like it had taken place in a matter of seconds or months.
They were here, I could feel their presence. "I'M NOT AFRAID OF YOU," I shouted, my fingers began to tremble, immediately betraying my words.
"Where the hell am I!?" I hissed, ripping myself out of his hold. In a second, his arms were around my shoulder. His fingernails dug into my arms, making me wince. I could hear him breathing heavily.
The air was colder in a flash. My eyes began adjusting to the dark. I could see his outline. He was tall, much taller than I expected. His eyes were still lighting up, a color I'd never seen before. He was... he was attractive, more than that... perfect. Everything was just- it took my breath away from more than just a moment. He had run faster than me, but not even that. He had been there in a flash; it wasn't normal, immortal if anything. And as I stared at him, I could feel my body warmth going up. For a moment, my mind came to a nice, smooth blank. The ringing stopped almost suddenly as our eyes met. And the air around us, so still and quiet was almost the same as the loud ring. I brought my hands from my ears. My fingers rubbed together, feeling moist. Blood. My eyes, still glued to his, filled with tears. What was happening to me? And for those seconds our eyes were interlocked, I could feel my shock, worry, and fear slip away. My heart was, beating faster than ever before. And the pain I was in, left. For those seconds, I believed in things I never thought real- love, for example.
"Ezra," someone interrupted, the man's eyes left mine.
And as soon as they did I felt the cold enter my body and the ringing began again.
If I knew anything, it was that wherever I was, wasn't real.
