it's a tax on motorists, you aren't forcing people to pay the gas tax, you are enforcing tax law. If you make the oil companies pay the tax they will just pass the cost back to...yes, you guessed it, the motorists.

It's pandering, pure and blatant. You may as well say "I'm going to cancel all taxes! Everything will be free! Wheee!!" but it wouldn't be any less BS.

This gas tax business is all fine and good, I guess, but when are we ever going to stop twiddling our thumbs and enter the 21st century? Germany has legislated incentives for its citizens to convert to wind and solar energy. What are we waiting for? Do our Senators/Reps have no backbone at all to do what's in the interest of the American people? Why should oil companies care how much we pay for gas when they know that we HAVE to pay it because the majority of citizens have no alternative?
