RIP Alexis Stankewitz

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - Surrounded by family and friends Melody Stankewitz told stories about her 15-year-old daughter, Alexis Stankewitz.

"She was very beautiful. She had angel hair. It was black even though she died it many times different colors," she said smiling.
"She was very happy. She always had to be around people. That was just her thing."

The teen was killed in a car crash on Girvin road Friday morning.
Her friends say she was in the front passenger seat.
Police say the driver lost control and hit a fence and tree.
They say the two were not wearing seatbelts and the driver's breath smelled of alcohol.

"It's terrible. It just shows you how fast if you drink and drive how quick someone can go. I think everyone should learn a valuable lesson from this not to drink and drive period because we just lost someone so beautiful a couple days ago and its just so rough and tough," said Alec Labbe who says Stankewitz was his high school girlfriend.

The girl's father, Dave Abney, says he's still trying to come to terms with what happened.

"I'm still in shock. Just doing my best. She was my little girl."

Monday her parents and friends gathered at the pier in Jacksonville Beach to release balloons, toss rose petals and holdon to each other and their memories.

"There was never a dull moment with her you could basically be sitting in a room and she would make you laugh the entire time. She could say anything and you would just laugh," said Family Friend Mariah Lane.

Monday dozens of friends also laid flowers at the crash site trying to come to terms with losing someone so young.

"Just the things she would say when you would feel so bad about yourself, she would just bring you up and make you feel as beautiful as she was," said Friend Annie Hayes.

Stankewitz's funeral will be in Michigan where she spent most of her life with her father.
Charges are still pending against the driver.

One thing to NEVER forget is, Lexi is DEAD from a car accident with DRINKING involved. I PRAY everynight one of her friends will learn and understand this. It's so sad that some of you are still making the wrong choices. This is a horrific loss to anyone that had the privilage of being touched by someone who is now a real angel.
