NYCTA Exclusive! : On-Board Designline "Citibus" Eco-Saver IV 1303 On The M2
Because of a mishap that occured with Designline Hybrid # 1304, 1303 came from Grand Ave for one day! 1304 went back into service the next day.
The Designline " Citibus" Eco-Saver IV Hybrid has tested out of MJQ and is now testing out of Manhattanville Depot. Bus # 1303 has been testing out of Grand Ave depot on routes such as the B13, B60 & B43 lines.
A 35ft version of this bus was tested and it was successful, hence allowing the order of the new Designline buses.
There will be 8 buses for the pilot program, if the buses pass, the order will be 30 buses with 60 in the optional order.
Engine and Transmission specifications are as follows
Capstone C65 MicroTurbine
Bosch Rexroth 120kW Traction Motors
This is by far the most quiet hybrid out in service today. The Orion VII Originals & Next Gens are noisemakers compared to these buses.
This bus was also on routes like the M2, M3, M4, M9, M11, M27, M42, M50, M98, B13, B60 & B43 routes!
@SoziLiberAL Germany = 137,847 sq mi. USA = 3,794,101 sq mi. Easy to electrify an area that small.

Those buses and the Next Gen are great buses. Before these hybrids came along 3 years ago it had been over 10yrs since the MTA got some new buses.

Thanks for the reply. Here in Germany, we have the best infrastructure in the world, but we spent more money for this. You, the world superpower with the biggest economy in the word, can't pay it? It isn't only the MTA, CTA, Amtrak etc. Most of your rail network is not electrified .

Yeah that's your opinion. A new middle aged bus is better than a newer bus or old ones. The MTA doesnt have all the money in the world and I'm sure of it. The yellow cable is the stop request cord. It replaces the stop request tape on newer buses now.

Sounded very quiet even when the bus is in motion.

That is a middle-aged bus. Citaro is much better. I thought that the USA was the country of high tech. Where are the LCD displays in the bus? In Europe and Asia, that is usual. Last time i was in NY, i saw a old ruined infrastructure and this bus is the best evidence. What's about the yellow cable?
