Serena Williams Gives Tennis Lessons to Kids in New York

And now to New York, where tennis super star Serena Williams gave some tennis tips to kids from the Bronx. NTD's Ben Hedges has this report.
She grew up in the notorious Los Angeles suburb of Compton. And started playing tennis at the age of four.
Since then, she has taken out 11 grand slam singles titles, 34 WTA singles titles, nine grand slam doubles titles, and won two Olympic medals for doubles.Having just won Wimbledon, she has come to give something back, showing kids from New Yorks Bronx that they can achieve their dreams.Were playing tennis with Serena Williams and it was fun.At this brand new $16 million dollar tennis facility on Randalls Island New York, Williams puts the kids through their paces.

[Serena Williams, You know, tennis is changing. There are a lot of different people coming. And different cultures. From Chinese, to Japanese to Indian, to you know, theres just so many different cultures, so its not just one face and one look.

Taliyah Cisse, from the Bronx shares her experience.

[Taliyah Cisse, 9-year-old]:
I am going to remember when she hit the ball and I hit it. And then when she gave us all high fives.Williams shares some advice for those who want to follow in her footsteps..

[Serena Williams]: I would tell them to enjoy themselves. Tennis is a great sport. Its a great way to get out there, to meet people. To grow confidence in yourself and just in life. And whatever you do have fun while you do it because you will do much better.

10-year-old Justin Pabon enjoyed his encounter with the celebrity. [Justin Pabon, 10-year-old]:I felt great. A little bit happy, but I was a little bit nervous.
