In this show we discuss ways to get a good gaming experience despite a money constraint.

Some months have a fifth Tuesday, and we call these "bonus months." During bonus months we eschew the gaming culture topic and provide a second review. In this first bonus month, we explain what we mean by the term, review a game and a game saving device, and provide a salute to our troops.

If you would like to play or try Laser Squad Nemesis, a demo download can be found here:

http://www.lasersquadnemesis.com

I referred to the Max Drive in this show. The device is made by Datel:

If you would like to purchase a max-drive (see the show for warnings about the device), then you can order one at this site:

The video was done using DAZ 3D Studio (a free download), Mimic for DAZ Studio, and Windows Movie Maker. PC footage was captured using Game Cam and Cam Studio, and all console footage was captured on DVD and retrieved using Easy DVD Ripper. Special effects were done with Adobe After Effects and individual pictures were done in Photoshop. Audio was done with Audacity.

I hope you enjoy the show. Please leave your comments, questions, or suggestions in the feedback section below.

  • Good review! I've been playing Laser Squad Nemesis for some years now and can definitely attest to its enduring quality.

I have to say, though, that I think it's quite a bit cheaper than $5 a month... the subscription cost has been going down in recent years to reward the loyal player-base.

  • Thanks for watching, DancerDougal. I appreciate your feedback.

In the first year it's $50 for the year. I could have said that it was "over $4 per month," but I generally like to list prices in terms of "under X amount." That's why I went with "under $5 per month." I know it's cheaper when you are renewing, but the review is written for people that haven't played yet. I think the $5 is more applicable to them.

  • I need help. this vid reminded me of a game I saw my freinds used to play on PC. I don't know the name and that's what I need help with. it was a army (WWII?) strategy game. they would play off 1 computer. first would plot commands to the squad like in the above video. when done the other (out of the room) would plot his moves (not knowing what the other did) and then they would hit a 'go' button and the battle would happen in real time. any ideas? sory bgbb for using your vid like this.

  • A game where you switch back and forth is call a "hotseat" game. If you look that up, you might find what you are looking for.

Are you certain it wasn't LSN?

  • Not only are your shows entertaining, they cover a wide variety of gaming. Keep it up man! I love these! BTW, I did own a PS1 floppy drive for memory cards. Ever used one of those?

  • NO, but I wish I had. That sounds like an excellent way of moving data around. My first "animation" was done in Fighter Maker 1 for the PS1, and the floppy drive would have really enhanced the experience.

  • fairly certain. i specifically remember one would be out of the room while the other plotted the movements of his squad, click finish. then the other would come and plot his moves. then they would both watch as the action unfolded in realtime. thanx for the help I'll check that out in the searches. Keep the vids coming, you rock! YOW!
