Elm St. and the downtown area has had a recent revitalization from being a ghost town in the early 90s to now being the place to go for dining and entertainment in Manchester. The building of the Verizon Wireless arena and FisherCats stadium has helped bring in new businesses and people to Manchester, along with more crime. As people from N. Mass move into Manchester seeking cheaper housing prices. Granted not all the ppl from N. Mass are to blame for the higher crimerate, but some are.

I lived in Manchester for over 20yrs from 89-01. Manchester has always had some crime. From the days when the Zoo the infamous biker bar and the move of commerce from Elm St. to S.Willow St of the late 80s and early 90s. There is a wealth of city parks in Manchester compared to other cities of similar size. The long time efforts to restore the old downtown mill section finally came to fruition in the late 90s with the influx of restaurants and tech companys moving into them.

Manchester is definitely a city and has been the largest in NH since you are your parents were ever born and will continue to be the largest with he influx of new people moving here every day. Its doing a helluva lot better than every other city in NH for a dump isn't it...

Manchester is a great place to live, but the overgrown boston area has led to an invasion of massholes. Still, I wish I hadn't moved away.
