Another weird thing is i had a little ifght with my sister about this, her leaning towards the procensorship side. But i saw in my facebook newsfeed she joined some facebook group in support of Bill Hensons work...now that shes had time to see the work for herself. Not getting my incoherent rants :p

Hey Dr Ash,

I've heard a lot about Bill Henson's work in the media recently... Is it totally necessary for young teens to be photographed naked, or semi naked (i haven't seen the photographs)to portray their innocence? As for censorship of art, if the police have charged him, surely his 'art' has to be considered... um indecent for public display? I don't have a problem with naked adult bodies, but young teens depicted in compromising positions, I find rather tasteless.

cool dude :D i posted some comments (well its a small essay nearly) on the video bill henson radiohead montage if you're interested. I recently finished a book called defending pornography: freedom of speech, feminism and womens rights by nadine strossen who is teh head of the ACLU in America. There is a lot of horrible censorship things going on at the moment and not with just subjects like bill which are easily made borderline but subjects that really should be safe.

why is everyone fixated on "dirty old bastards pulling their puds". Bill Henson is an artist and makes art. Dirty old bastards would find objects of desire to obsess over with or without Bill Henson. But doesn't Bill Hensons imagery give those children a voice...?? Isn't that then empowering for those children...??what about then for other children...?? Of course its empowering. And empowerment is protection. Its always the weak who suffer and its always the weak who don't have a voice

in hensons work there is a sexualised feeling to these pictures, but not what id see as child porn, more the confusion in our children about puberty n the strange an scary thing that is developing into a young adult. people who call this child pornography have absolutly no idea what there talking about in my opinion, an have jumped on the bandwagon n are burning witches, without knowing wat a bloddy witch is in the first place, xxxlove u ash xx jade

Hey Ash, I couldn't agree more. The child's parent gave permission for the photos to be taken, any reasonable adult parent wouldn't allow this if they felt it was being done for the wrong reason. When we censor art we are censoring life, I was extremely disappointed at the ignorance that allowed this to get so blown out of proportion. Good luck house hunting.
